Tachograph Analysis & HGV Investigation

Tachograph Analysis

The analysis of tachograph recordings is fundamental to investigations such as HGV rollover and fraud involving HGV’s. In addition to these areas, we offer training in all aspects of tachograph analysis and Drivers' Hours Legislation.

We have recently improved this area and invested in a forensic microscope to compliment our existing facilities. The microscope is linked directly to a computer. The data obtained from the analysis can be printed out in a line graph format to show the time, distance travelled and speed at which the vehicle was travelling at any particular point of the recorded journey.

This information shows the time taken to carry out a recorded activity in hours, minutes and seconds, the distance that the vehicle travelled between the two activities, the speed of the vehicle during the time between the two activities and the rate of acceleration or deceleration of the vehicle, again between the two activities.

The graphical interpretation of the evidence allows it to be easily understood by our instructors.

Digital Tachograph Analysis

We have the facility to download and interpret information held in digital tachograph recording units.

With the assistance of the vehicle operator we are able to access the information held and provide a detailed report to assist the accident investigation process.

HGV Rollover Investigation

There are many causes of HGV rollover. These incidents are usually very costly and unfortunately often involve serious injury or worse. Traffic and weather conditions, tachograph analysis, HGV loading and dimensions are just some of the factors to consider when dealing with these cases.
