The Transport Select Committee has today released an update to its March report covering the rising costs of motor insurance premiums. It has advised that the cost of motor insurance could be cut if the government restricted the huge number of ‘subjective’ whiplash injury claims.

GBB Managing Director Brian Henderson and Operations Director Matthew Stansfield met with Louise Ellman MP, Chair of the Transport Select Committee at the Houses of Parliament in May further to the first report. Assistance was given relating to practical issues surrounding ‘whiplash’ and similar genre claims.

The Transport Select Committee’s findings are that Claimants should have to prove they have suffered a whiplash injury. The report highlights the fact that there has been a 70% rise in motor insurance claims in the past six years, despite a 23% drop in the number of casualties actually caused by road traffic accidents.

Louise Ellman MP, told the BBC that whiplash claims are ‘subjective and costly’. Mrs Ellman said the increase in claims for personal injuries was the main reason for the rise in claims overall and that whiplash, in turn, accounted for 70% of all personal injury claims.

“Many of these claims are for whiplash, an injury where diagnosis is often subjective and therefore very costly for insurers to challenge,” she said.

“The threshold for receiving compensation in whiplash cases should be raised and, if the number of such claims does not fall significantly, the government should bring forward primary legislation to require objective evidence – both of a whiplash injury and of it having a significant effect on the claimant’s life – before compensation is paid,” she added.
GBB is at the forefront of investigation and research into low speed accidents and the effects upon the vehicles involved and their occupants.
For any further information about services relating to low speed cases please contact us.

At GBB we are updating our website…again.

Further to a change to our branding our website is being updated. A complete overhaul of the content has begun and we anticipate that our new site will be much easier to navigate and will provide much more information about the services we can offer.

Our 3D animation and simulation services will have their own dedicated pages allowing us to show working examples and display the power of this technology in the accident reconstruction arena. There will also be much more information in relation to our bespoke services dealing with incidents involving catastrophic loss.

In addition, in response to comments from our instructors the video content on the site will be transferred into a you-tube format so that it can be played on most smart-phones and therefore easily referred to at mediation, in conference or at Court.

We anticipate that our new site will be live before the end of July.

GBB sponsored Stephen Irvine returns to racing this weekend after a year away due to injury.

After being forced to give up the sport as a result of having to undergo spinal surgery, a now fully-fit Stephen Irvine makes a welcome return to sprint action this weekend at Anglesey Race Circuit.

The son of former Burnley footballer Willie Irvine, he missed the whole of last year having a series of operations to repair wear and tear damage to his back sustained during his Army service years.

It came soon after he had won the 2009 MGCC Northern Hill & Sprint Championship and finished first in his class in the Luffield National Championship.

With doubts about his being able to compete on future events he reluctantly sold his double-championship winning MGB GT, resigned to the possibility that his racing career could be over.

Fortunately his worst fears weren’t founded and having acquired a MG ZR160 he hopes to rediscover his winning ways when he debuts the new car on the opening round of the 2011 MGCC Luffield Cars Champion-ship.

Irvine, from Worsthorne, isn’t overly confident of his chances but remains excited at the prospect of getting back into race action.

He said: “Being front-wheel drive, the ZR will be a bit of change from the B GT but it looks like it’s going to be a bit of fun.

“I still have a need for speed so I’ve been cycling and swimming to help get my fitness back and now I’m ready.”

He needs to be as the championship provides a tough schedule with a mix of track and hillclimb events.

Backing for Irvine comes from Mini-sport of Padiham and Burnley-based GBB (UK) Ltd, a leading independent firm of Consulting Forensic Collision Investigators and Engineers.

GBB Director Matthew Stansfield said “Stephen is a former employee of ours and we are happy to sponsor him again having previously supported him during his successful hill climb championship season in 2009.

“I and other members of our team hope to attend one or two events during the summer and wish him every success.”

Irvine hopes GBB’s continued support could be a lucky omen and with his car now looking resplendent with the firm’s decals he said: “If it goes as fast as it looks I’ll do alright!”

This weekend’s meeting is co-hosted by Lancashire & Cheshire Car Club and the MG Car Club and spectators are charged £5 admission on both Saturday and Sunday with practice starting at 10am each day.
